About

This blog started out as a way to document the baking projects I tackled in my tiny but well-lit apartment kitchen with my BFF Lauren (a.k.a. Betsy Bundt). At first I only did desserts — usually very sweet, rich, chocolaty desserts.

Over time, I became more interested in food and the food industry (I blame Food Inc.), and I began to occasionally throw in a post about a meal I whipped up for dinner. That got me to thinking that having a baking blog was really limiting myself. Enter Wine & Plum. This is a place for me to write about whatever I want, whenever I want, which usually means chocolate.

More about me: I’m a Tar Heel born and bred. My guilty pleasure is reading young adult novels. I get cranky when I’m hungry, and I don’t like the letter ‘B.’

XO Alyson

FAQs

Why Wine & Plum?

Though I do enjoy a glass of wine as much as the next girl and I think plums are pretty tasty, the name actually came about because wine red and plum purple are my favorite colors, especially when they’re together.

Who is Susie Sprinkle?

My alter ego. She’s an extraordinary (-ly messy) baker.

Who’s The BF?

My boyfriend Boo Forever, dishwasher, kitchen cleaner-upper, food taster, part-time photographer, and head cheerleader. He generally maintains a sunny disposition while I create messes all over the apartment.

Who’s Betsy Bundt?

My BFF, Lauren. She’s way better at baking than I am, so I often call her in as reinforcement. If you see any baking projects that look even remotely difficult on here, she was probably involved. Also, the original idea for a baking blog came from one of our joint baking sessions. She wrote my second post!

Who takes your pictures? What equipment do you use?

If you see a bad picture, I took it on my tiny point-and-shoot, or possibly my cell phone. If you see a gorgeous picture, The BF took it on one of the nice cameras he borrows from his work. Sorry, I can’t give you equipment details. Partly because he uses different ones all the time, and partly because I have no idea what I’m talking about.
Update: My in-laws gave us a Canon EOS Rebel T3 for Christmas 2012, so most pictures since then are taken with that!

You are hysterical! So very glad I stumbled upon your blog and am now 10 pounds heavier just from scrolling through the photographs.
